Birth - one of the most life changing and spiritual experiences in a woman's life. It is as individual and personal as the act that created the life to begin with. We at Cache Valley Doula believe that every woman should have the birth experience they want and are committed to helping you and your partner achieve that experience.
Every pregnancy, labor and birth is a unique miraculous story. As no two births are the same you should be able to choose how you prefer each birth journey to unfold in an environment where you feel safe and protected. You decide who will be present, who will cut the ambilical cord, which friends and family will be present and whether to use pain medication or not and how much, if any intervention you wish.
One way to ensure that you have the experience you want is to be well informed. You can locate books written specifically to help you understand the whole process at our bookstore. We highly recommend Ina May's Guide to Childbirth
Cache Valley Doula will support you emotionally and physically through your pregnancy, labor and birth in your home (with a midwife present) or in a hospital setting. We provide child birth education, help you design a birth plan, support you and your partner during the birth process, and follow up with your family after the birth.
It is our goal at Cache Valley Doula to provide information, education and coaching, not to persuade anyone to give birth in a particular way. You are in control, we just help you achieve the results you want by allowing you to make informed decisions.
What is a Doula?
The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period. Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.
A Birth Doula
Research evidence shows that the quality services of a doula can ease the transition that comes with the addition of a baby to a family, improve parental satisfaction and reduce the risk of mood disorders. Having a doula allows mom, dad and baby to bond during those crucial moments right after birth. That bond will last a life time, but if not established immediately the lack of bonding will also last a life time. Every child deserves the best birthday!
